Last weekend our family took a whirlwind trip to California. We arrived late Friday night (the wee hours of the night according to New York time) and flew home on Monday. The reason? To celebrate Grandma’s 90th birthday.
Siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandchildren, and great-children, gathered to honor a deserving woman. We laughed, we cried, we ate, and we toasted a woman who touched each person’s life sitting around the various tables. It is a bit odd to look around a room and realize that one person (well, actually two people), played a part in bringing you to life.
Throughtout the evening, words from Proverbs 31 echoed off the lips of those who shared about Grandma and the impact her life made on others.
“A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies. ”
“She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family,”
“Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.“
Here’s to you, Grandma–a lover of God, a daugther, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a friend. Thank you for laughing so easily and modeling how to grow older gracefully!
